About Me

Percussionist and arts professional Matthew Enfinger is passionate about connecting people through music, both on stage and behind the scenes. Based in Atlanta, Georgia, Matthew maintains a multifaceted career as a freelance percussionist, educator, and fundraiser, dedicated to keeping music at the heart of culture and community.

Matthew earned his Master of Music in Percussion Performance from the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University, where he studied with Robert van Sice, Ian Rosenbaum, Ji Su Jung, and Jeff Stern. He received his Bachelor of Music from Vanderbilt University’s Blair School of Music, studying with Ji Hye Jung and Lee Vinson.

As a performer, Matthew is an enthusiastic collaborator with mixed ensembles and chamber groups, and has shared music across the East Coast. He focuses on making contemporary music engaging and accessible to all audiences, regularly performing works by composers such as Andy Akiho, Steve Reich, and Gabriela Ortiz, and continues to collaborate on new projects that explore the intersection of percussion and electronics.

Dedicated to education and mentorship, Matthew offers private percussion lessons for students of all ages and experience levels. His teaching emphasizes curiosity, creativity, and confidence, helping each student develop their own voice while building strong musical fundamentals. He has served on faculty at the Tennessee Valley Music Festival, teaching masterclasses and private lessons, and continues to guide young percussionists through both performance and practice.

Offstage, Matthew works on the Institutional Giving team at the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, supporting initiatives that bring world-class music to the community. This work reflects the same goal that drives his performing and teaching: making music accessible, meaningful, and sustainable.
